About The Department

                                      Ever since the inception of the Department of Mechanical Engineering during 1998-99, the mission of the Department has been to provide sound technical knowledge and research facilities to students. The Department has crowned itself with the glory by achieving remarkable success in academic, co-curricular and research activities. The Department has been keeping abreast of the latest advancement by providing sophisticated modern equipments in various laboratories and training the students in the latest technologies in the field of Mechanical Engineerin g

                                  The Department offers the 4-year B.E. Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering.  The syllabi and course structure are as per the guidelines of Anna University. The Course was approved by AICTE with an intake of 60 students in 1998 with affiliation under Madurai Kamaraj University. Later it was affiliated to Anna University in the academic year 2001-2002. The strength was increased to 120 students in the year 2009. The two year M.E. Manufacturing Engineering program was started in the academic year 2011-2012 affiliated to Anna University with an intake of 18 students

To create competent professionals with high quality technical knowledge and excellent professional skills needed to address the real time challenges in the rapidly growing field of Electronics and Communication Engineering and to produce the creative solutions for the  Societal needs.

To inculcate the practical knowledge to the students by providing the state of art laboratories to make them employable/entrepreneurs.

To kindle creative ideas and innovative thinking and develop the department as a centre for Research and Development.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

P1: DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE:  Students will be educated in the domain knowledge of mechanical engineering through the demonstration of application of knowledge in mathematics, science, basic computing to engineering fundamentals and in-depth studies in mechanical engineering aimed at keeping them abreast with industrial and research advances.   

P2: ADVANCED STUDIES & LIFELONG EDUCATION:  Students are provided with the opportunity to pursue higher education oriented towards design, development and manufacturing engineering specialization and other fields and to impart the spirit for continued, independent, life-long learning to become experts in their profession and to broaden their domain knowledge.   

P3: GENERIC SKILLS: Students are trained to organize and present information, to write and speak effective English, to work effectively on team based Engineering projects, to practice ethics at work and demonstrate a sense of social responsibility.   

P4: CAREER ADVANCE: Students are trained to develop into creative, talented and competent professionals to succeed in securing Engineering positions with Mechanical and Manufacturing firms.  


Programme Outcomes (POs)

a. Students will be capable of applying the knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in the field of Mechanical Engineering. 

b. Students will have the ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data in Mechanical Engineering. 

c. Students will have the ability to design Mechanical Engineering system components or processes to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as health and safety, economic, environmental and societal considerations. 

d. Students will be able to work individually as well as in multidisciplinary teams, as a member or as a leader, to accomplish the common goal. 

e. Students will be able to identify, analyze, Design,formulate and solve engineering problems.

In this lab, students are trained to operate D.C. machines, A.C. machines and transformers through experimentation.. The lab comprises of major equipment like DC motors and DC generators, Single phase and three phase Induction motors, Single phase and three phase transformers, Synchronous Generators and motors.

Electric Circuits lab

Imparts hands on experience in verification of circuit laws and theorems, measurement of circuit parameters, study of circuit characteristics and simulation of time response. The experiments conducted include resonance phenomenon in electric circuits. The major equipments in this lab are Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, Audio Frequency Oscillator, Regulated Power Supplies and LCR meters.

Control System Lab

Provides a platform for understanding the basic concepts of linear control theory and its application to practical systems is very important. Transfer functions of servo motors are determined. Different types of systems are analyzed. The lab comprises of major equipments like DC Motor and DC Generator, AC Servomotor, DC Stepper motor, DC Position control system and AC Synchro transmitter and receiver.
